New York RIvers United Wins Adirondack Council's Highest Honor
North River, NY, July 13, 2002- New York Rivers United today received theAdirondack Council¹s highest honor, the coveted hand-carved loon signifyingthe Council¹s annual CONSERVATIONIST OF THE YEAR award. Adirondack Council Executive Director Brian Houseal said:
In the Adirondacks, New York Rivers has worked alongside the Adirondack Council to reach hydropower settlements that will restore major sections of the Beaver, Raquette, Sacandaga andOswegatchie rivers. Our organizations work together very well. It's apleasure to extend this award in recognition for their efforts. Thanks to NYRU's work as a chief environmental negotiator in thefederal hydro license procedure, hundreds of miles of dry river bed havebeen restored to natural flows and power companies have committed millions of dollars to environmental and recreational enhancements.
